Detroit,MI [ Rebuild not Restart]

Posted on

So…I went to Detroit a few weeks ago, and I think I liked it!

It’s a mini Chicago maybe?! A bonus is that it is right across from Canada, and you all know how much I’m obsessed with Canada! (Thanks to Degrassi, Andrea Lewis, and Drake) The reason for my visit was to meet up with a few of my college friends and catch up. My friend and I stayed at the Roberts River walk hotel and while the view of the hotel was amazing and that was about it.

The area where the hotel was located is called River town/Warehouse district, and it was a nice place to stay, very industrial but close to anything you would need. (Banks,CVS,food)

I was so surprised at the food options that Detroit had to offer. I’m such a food snob because Chicago has the best food hands than a lot of places but Detroit made me happy in the food department.  The first night we went to a southern style restaurant called “They Say” very nice feel and seems to be a great place to get after work or mid-day drinks.  I had some punch drink, and it was AMAZING!  I got the fried catfish, and my friend ordered the steak bites, all were very good! I highly recommend this place if you happen to be in the area.

We also partook in some nightlife activities ala the club, and it was your typical cost 30 dollars to get in, but we are going to charge you 20 type of deal. Which is reason number 109678 I don’t care for the “Club” scene but the music was good, and the drinks were reasonably priced.

Our final night in Detroit we went to another great restaurant called "Central Kitchen and bar" The ambiance of this place was very chic and modern.  ( I loved it) I ordered shrimp and grits, and the flavors of everything was excellent.  Being the Wino I am I also ordered a glass of wine.

After  dinner, we ended up going to  another lounge type place, and it was very lackluster, no frills just tables, couches and HOOKAH (Did I come to ATL or Detroit?!)

The next day everyone else left to go back home, and I had a later flight out, so I explored the city a little more by going to brunch before departing.

Overall I enjoyed Detroit, the food surprised me, and the rebuilding of the city and all the businesses that we encountered was very cool to see.  It was very refreshing and relaxing. I also had been feeling like I was restarting my life but was reminded that I’m rebuilding it instead.

Next time I am for sure hitting up Canada. Let me know places I missed and need to visit when I return!
